WHAT MAKES THIS CAMP DIFFERENT

Most summer music camps teach kids to play other people’s songs. At Tonal Art, your child creates their own. Over the week, campers learn the fundamentals of songwriting, music production, and recording using GarageBand on their own Apple devices. They collaborate with bandmates, work with experienced music educators, and build real projects,  from a first lyric idea to a finished recording.

Every camper leaves with hands-on experience in songwriting, arranging, and audio production. And on the final Friday of each week, they perform their original songs live for family and friends.

This isn’t a “play along and have fun” camp. It’s a creative experience where kids build real skills and real confidence, and walk away with music they made themselves.

YOUR CHILD’S INSTRUCTORS

Your child will work with a team of experienced music educators, including:

  • A songwriting coach who helps each camper find their voice and craft original lyrics and melodies

  • Instrument specialists providing hands-on support in guitar, piano, strings, drums, and vocals

  • A music technology instructor guiding students through GarageBand, recording, and digital production

  • A private lesson monitor for one-on-one musical support when a camper needs it

  • A childcare coordinator ensuring a safe, positive environment all day

Tonal Art Music Center has been teaching music in Jersey City for over a decade. We offer private lessons, group classes, early music education, and band programs year-round. COMMON QUESTIONS FROM PARENTS

Does my child need musical experience to join?
No prior experience is required. Our instructors meet each camper where they are, whether they’re picking up an instrument for the first time or already playing. The focus is on creativity and collaboration, not technical skill level.

What instruments can my child play?
Campers can work on guitar, piano, strings, drums, or vocals. Our instrument specialists provide support across all of these. Campers can also focus on songwriting and production if they’re more interested in the creative and tech side.

Can my child attend just one week?
Yes. Each week is a complete experience with its own showcase. Many families register for both weeks because the second week allows campers to go deeper, but one week is a full, standalone program.

What about lunch and supervision?
Campers bring their own lunch. Our team includes a childcare coordinator who ensures a safe, engaging environment throughout the day. Lunch is followed by supervised outdoor time at a nearby park.

We live in Hoboken. Is this far?
Not at all. Our location at 316 17th Street in Jersey City is just minutes from Hoboken by car or Light Rail. We serve families from Jersey City, Hoboken, and across Hudson County.
